Indian premier League

Indian Premier League, a franchise based tournament, in which Eight teams take part and compete for almost two months in home and away method. It is the most popular and biggest among all contemporary leagues whether monetarily or qualitatively, the lively atmosphere created by spectators and the participation of players from all over the world put this league above others competitively.

History:


The first Twenty20 match was played between English counties namely Hampshire and Sussex in 2003 and the first Twenty20 international was played between Australia and New Zealand in 2005.

The T20 (Twenty20) was promoted by scheduling One match after full length bilateral series. But, In 2007, the T20 world cup was organised and it became instant hit. Thereafter, One year later, In 2008, the players were auctioned for the first time and the first match between Kolkata Knight riders and Royal Challenger Bangalore (where Brendon McCullum hit 158) just gave the much needed impetus to the tournament and turned out to be the memorable innings ever played in Twenty20 cricket.

The Eight Franchises


Kings XI Punjab: The team just played one final since it's inception is the biggest disappointment for this franchise as they start really well but in the end they somehow finds a way to get out of the tournament.

Delhi Capitals changed their name from Delhi Daredevils this year and will be hoping for change in fortunes as well. This franchise never played the final but credit to them for patience and always picking young local talent and for nourishing it.

Rajasthan royals; the inaugural champions unable to replicate their performance of 2008. Like Delhi Capitals they also invest heavily on local young talent.

Mumbai Indians: It is one of the most popular teams of the league which connects with their fans really well and make sure they play every home game in front of full house. They won the title most 3 times.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: The team which invests heavily on bowling department whether local or foreign. They are one of the most consistent teams.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: This team is at par with Mumbai Indians in connecting with their followers both in their home and away games.

Kolkata Knight riders: The Two time champions after pretty average start is rising with every season. They also own Tribago Knight riders in Caribbean Premier League.

Chennai Super kings: The most consistent, the most popular and the three time champions along with Mumbai Indians makes it the favourites in every tournament they take part.

Besides these eight teams there used to be PUNE WARRIORS INDIA, DECCAN CHARGERS, KOCHI TUSKERS KERALA, GUJRAT LIONS, RISING PUNE SUPERGIANTS who played in-between due to various reasons.
