Mankading: Right or Wrong?

Mankading is a term used in cricket when a batsmen is run out at non striking end by a bowler without bowling a legitimate delivery. It all started with Vinoo mankad of India dismissed Bill brown of Australia twice in this fashion (although the bowler warned the batsmen) way back in 1947. Since then, whenever a batsmen is dismissed in this way is termed as MANKADED.

There aren't many instances of mankading but whenever Batsmen is MANKADED it opens up huge debate and opinion is divided between the two sections of people (generally talks about the spirit of the game and other one's winning at any cost).

What Exactly Law Says?

In all matches played under the Laws of cricket with no augmented playing conditions, the bowler may, after he has started his run up, but before he would normally have been expected to release the ball, attempt to run out a non-striker who has strayed outside his crease, with no warning mentioned. If the fielding side appeal the umpire will give the batsman out run out Under Law 41.16.The previous Laws were more restrictive as to when a bowler could attempt this, but they still allowed an attempt up until a bowler entered his delivery stride, which differed from the international game.

According to the various professional playing conditions, 42.11, "The bowler is permitted, before releasing the ball and provided he has not completed his usual delivery swing, to attempt to run out the non-striker." The umpires shall deem the bowler to have completed his delivery swing once his bowling arm passes the normal point of ball release.

Two Sides Of The Coin:

Although, the one's who talk about spirit of the game needs to speak everytime when batsmen edges one to the keeper and not walking and fielder claims catch even when he knows that it wasn't a clean catch.

The other side think it's the game which they play to win and it needs to be played within the laws and running the batsmen out from non striking end is certainly well within the laws

Who is incharge?

The International cricket council (ICC) needs to create a balance between the spirit of the game and laws of the game. ICC is the authoritative body who controls cricket across the globe.
